Show-Me Racin Series releases statement regarding spec motor inspection

During a three week break in the Show-Me Racin Series schedule, drivers were offered the opportunity to bring their cars for an inspection allowing them to be puffed (cubic inch) and whistled (compression ratio)  in a clean environment.  After the motors were teched and numbers of the heads recorded the motors were sealed.   This would eliminate the need to tech motors as often in dusty conditions and late hours at the track.  This type of tech has been a courtesy offered to the drivers every year of the series existence, but weather conditions forced cancellation of tech day earlier this year.

Eleven motors where teched in this time frame and all but one passed inspection.  Several attempts to resolve this issue failed.  The driver with the motor in question stated he would not be returning and since the infraction was not found at the track, no final ruling has been made if any penalties would be assessed.

For the remainder of the season, motors will be periodically checked, even the ones with seals.  At the end of the season, the top 5 in points and two others selected by driver vote will be torn down.   This is all in an effort to keep a level playing field as our rules were intended.  For more detailed information on series rules please visit the “rules” page on our website.

5-8-09 - Springfield Raceway Bonus Points

After kicking around several ideas during the off-season, officials with the Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series have made a decision regarding the “bonus points” situation for weekly shows at Springfield Raceway.  Drivers will be awarded 10 points for their attendance for up to 5 events for a maximum of 50 points throughout the year.   These points will be added to the driver’s total series points at the end of the season.  The “Springfield bonus points nights” will be any Sat. night that Springfield Raceway is running Late Models for a weekly event and a Race Brothers Show-Me Series race is not being held at another track.

A driver must attend 75% of the Show-Me Series special events to be eligible for point fund money and prizes regardless of how many races they compete in at Springfield Raceway. (you can't get into Show-Me Series point fund money by racing at Springfield only, but a driver could do better in Series points by attending a few weekly shows)

Also, in a new development this past week, Lucas Oil Speedway has decided to allow Show-Me Series cars to compete with their weekly division.  Cars will be checked using series rules, ULMA cars will be checked by their rules, and crate cars will also be allowed to compete.

The Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series is thrilled that these tracks have came on board in support of our rules package, giving our drivers a place to race on a weekly basis.  We encourage our drivers to support these tracks as much as possible during off nights of Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series special events.

Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series to Tri-State Speedway

The Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series is preparing to kick off the 2009 season on April 11, 2009 at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, OK.   The series has a history of several different winners per season with a field full of tough competitors at each event, but 2009 is raising the bar to a totally new level.

Three past Show-Me Series champs are planning on running the complete schedule.  After a short break, 2004 Champ Justin Wells is back, driving for car owner, Ken Patterson.  Not only did Justin win the 2004 Show-Me championship, he is a 2 time NATIONAL IMCA Late Models points champion and has numerous track championships under his belt.

Leslie Essary is the 2007 & 2008 Race Brothers Show-Me Series champion.  He also won the MLRA championship in 1993 & 97 and also has several track championships to his credit.  Leslie has won the most Show-Me main events of any driver on the circuit.

Ken Essary won the Show-Me Series Championship in 2005 & 06, and is also a former 2-time MLRA champ.  He has more track championships that you can count on both hands and feet.  Even though he’s old enough to receive a social security check, he can give the young guys a run for their money every time he hits the track.

With 36 track championships & 3 Winter National Championships to his name modified stand-out Rex Merritt is giving a Race Brothers Show-Me Late Model a try this season.  He’s also won several asphalt Late Models races, as well as a couple of feature wins in the World Series of Racing events in Florida.  Sporting a new Mastersbilt Chassis, Rex Merritt could be a contender to be reckoned with for 2009.  And by the way, this is his 30th year behind the wheel of a race car.

Adding to the impressive list includes Shane Essary, with track championships & MLRA wins to his credit.  2000 Springfield Raceway track champion Jim Fulp returns this season.  Jim has won a Show-Me Series main event every season since it began in 2004.  With multiple track championships in the factory stock division, Rick Lebow and Jordan Holloway are always in the hunt.  Both drivers have also won Race Brothers Show-Me Series main events. Also, 2008 Rookie of the Year Chris Morelock will be back this season.

Put all these guys together plus more for a main event, and you’ve got a race that is top notch.   The first night out will be on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, OK.  Grandstand admission is: Adults $15.00, kids ages 4-11 $4.00.  Pit gates: Adult $30.00 kids ages 4-11 $12.00.  Pit gate opens at 4:00, draw ends 6:00, hot laps will start at 6:15 and races will get underway at 7:00 pm

The series will be in action at Springfield Raceway’s season opener the following Saturday April 18.  For more information on the Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series visit our website at www.Show-MeRacinSeries.com.

BANQUET TO BE HELD AT CAMP BARNABAS ON OCT 26

The Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series banquet has been scheduled for OCTOBER 26 at Camp Barnabas.  Camp Barnabas is a camp for special needs children, similar to Victory Junction Gang Camp.  During the racing season, the Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series raises money through raffle ticket sales of t-shirts and such for Camp Barnabas, so it is a perfect fit to have the banquet at their facilities.   The camp was transformed a few years back by “Extreme Home Make-Over” and they have a large room for us to use.   With the campers gone for the school year, renting facilities for events such as our banquet allows the camp to have a revenue stream during the off-months.

We will be having a BBQ feast with 2 different choices of meat, potatoes, salad, rolls, and dessert of course!  Tickets will be $12 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5-10, with 4 & under free.  The camp will be providing activities for the kids to participate in during the awards presentation, so it should be fun for all!  We will start eating around 2:00 and the awards will follow.

Please purchase your tickets in advance so Camp Barnabas can properly plan for our event.  You can pick your tickets up at Tri-State Speedway on October 18 or call 417-880-9693 or e-mail getinfo@Show-MeRacinSeries.com to let me know how many from your group will be attending.

All race fans, friends, and families are invited to join in honoring the 25 drivers who have participated in 75% of our shows, as well as recognizing our sponsors and supporters for the 2008 season!  We hope to see you at the banquet at Camp Barnabas on Sunday October 26!

Directions to Camp Barnabas from Monett, MO

Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series to compete at Springfield Raceway Season opener April 19

On Saturday evening April 19 the Springfield Raceway will open the season with a different look – one that wasn’t planned – but during the January tornado – Mother Nature did her own remodeling.

The tornado blew away the concession stand, bathrooms, and ticket booth.  It also damaged the protective fences around the track.  As with most area tracks, these buildings had no insurance on them.  Track owners have also faced hurdles with Greene county planning and zoning before a “permanent structure” could be built within the county.  They had to settle with portable structures, but even so, the cost to the track has been over $10,000 in unplanned expenses.

As a friendly gesture the Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series will run at the track on opening night for Springfield’s normal weekly purse, in an attempt to allow Doug and Jerry to recoup some of the expenses required to get the track back in operating order.  This is a rather large cut in the purse for the Show-Me Series, but as series founder Ken Essary states, “We’d like to help them get back on their feet.  The Show-Me Series would do this to help any area track that sustained the damage that Springfield Raceway did.”

And a race it will be…. Past series champs Ken & Leslie Essary will be competing along with top runners, Jim Fulp, Rick Lebow, Jeremy Kelley, Kevin Henson, Darrin Barton, Jarrod Hilton, and many newcomers joining the series this season.  The fans will see a top notch show with 25-30 Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series Late Models expected to be on hand.  The series will then make a return visit to the Springfield Raceway on August 16 for a larger purse.

“We would like to thank Kenny Essary, the drivers, and everyone involved with the Show-Me Series,” stated track owner Jerry Hoffman.

Make your plans for Saturday night April 19 – come out to see a great season-opening race at Springfield Raceway. Tickets will be $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12. Pit Passes will be $30. In addition to the Show-Me Series Late Models, the Modifieds, Sport Mods, Factory Stocks, Bombers and Hornets will be running. Pit Gates open at 3:00 and grandstand gates will open at 5:00pm with Hot Laps at 6:15 pm and the races getting underway at 7:00 pm. There will be no entry fee for the Show-Me Series Late Models, except pit passes.
  .
The Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series season opener is this Saturday April 12 at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, OK.

Come out and support the Springfield Raceway and the Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series!  Visit www.SpringfieldRaceway.com or www.Show-MeRacinSeries.com for more information.

The open cars will have a $50 entry fee that is paid to Monett Speedway and the Show-Me cars will have a $50 entry fee that is paid to Show-Me.

The Show-Me Cars and open cars will run in SEPARATE heat races.  We will draw sticks and set the heat race line up like we always do.   The top 8 in passing points will make the A feature.  The remainder will have to run a B feature.   Whether the B's are run separately or together will depend on how many cars are present in each division.

12 Show-Me cars and 12 open cars will start the A feature TOGETHER (unless there are not enough of one or the other and then the numbers will be adjusted).   The Show-Me Cars will line up heads up according to passing points.  There will be a draw to see if they will start on the inside row or outside row.

There will be a Show-Me winner and open winner of the race.   If the first Show-Me car is 3rd, 5th, or whatever, he will be considered the winner of the Show-Me race and will receive the $1200 to win.  The next Show-Me car in the running order will receive 2nd and so on.

ALL Show-Me cars in attendance will receive 15 points.  Non-qualifiers will receive $75.

In post race inspection of the top 4 cars and 1 alternate, one car failed to pass the carburetor inspection.  The carburetor was held by an official and checked again on Sunday by series officials Dave Taylor and Jimmy Greenway.  The carburetor again failed.  As with last week’s carburetor issue, this was a minor infraction which was unknown and unintentional on the driver’s behalf.   Following last week’s ruling the driver will be fined 20 championship points and will keep his finishing position and pay.

Carburetors will continue to be checked throughout the season, and point deductions or disqualifications will be imposed depending on the severity of the violation.  If you have any question about your carburetor, would like for it to be checked, or have other technical questions, please bring them to the attention of series technical inspectors Dave Taylor or Jimmy Greenway.

Comments have been brought up about some rough driving issues, and point deductions following a race may be a potential penalty for continued problems.

Phone numbers of series officials are on the “contact” page of www.Show-MeRacinSeries.com.  Please call if you have any questions or comments.

May 8, 2007
The Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series action at West Plains Motor Speedway on Saturday May 5 was marred by a bit controversy.  Officials have been working to find the best solutions to the problems since then.

On lap 8 of the race, Leslie Essary spun on his own, in turn four.  Series flagman, Mike Streigel, has announced several times over the course of this season and last, that a car would not be put a lap down when having trouble on the track, such as a flat or a spin on their own in turns three or four.  Essary was signaled by the flagman to stay off the track and out of the way of the approaching cars, which continued to race back to the yellow flag. On the restart, Essary maintained his lead lap position and started tailback.  In the future, a red flag will be thrown in similar situations, all cars will revert back to the last completed lap, and the car that stopped will restart tailback on the lead lap. (provided they were not already a lap down before the spin)

During post race inspection of Justin Well’s carburetor, one of the four holes in the throttle plate checked big.  However, this carburetor has checked correctly earlier in the year.  After speaking with several experts in the field, it has been verified that the heat from the motor could have changed the size of the opening slightly, allowing the hole to check big when the carburetor was hot.  There was no performance advantage and was unintentional on Well’s behalf.  He has been told to get a new throttle plate and it will be checked before the next race.  However, since the 3 other cars that were checked passed, Wells will be fined 20 championship points.  (Well’s crew chief Perry Lawson was fined $10,000 and suspended for two weeks. Just a little NASCAR humor! Ha!)

Both Wells and Essary will maintain the 2nd and 4th place finishes.

Tyler Milner’s first year in a Late Model was in 2004, the same year the Show-Me Racin Series began.  He ran a limited schedule the first season, but has since became a Show-Me Racin Series regular, and came away with his first Late Model feature win at his home track in Siloam Springs, AR last September.

Tyler plans to run the whole Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series schedule in 2007 to “chase Show-Me points.”  Tyler says that he likes the group of guys that run with the series and that he is having fun.

Over the winter Tyler has been working on his car, he recently finished putting his motor in.  He and his crew will be ready to go by April 7th at the Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series season opener at West Plains Motor Speedway.  Tyler likes West Plains Motor Speedway, naming it and West Siloam Speedway as his favorite tracks.  Tyler came away with a 3rd place finish the last time the series ran at West Plains, so keep your eye on Tyler as a top-runner for the first race of the year.

Tyler sponsors include L & M Towing, Enhanced Network Solutions, Northwest Restoration, & Ron Arney Trucking.

The Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series Late Models and The Touring Midwest Fastrak Late Models will meet head to head at the Lebanon Midway Speedway on Friday Night Aug 17th in the 1st Annual Rumble in the Ozarks in a $1500 to win and $300 to start Late Model A Feature.

Over a year ago an exhibition feature between these two series was held at the Lebanon Midway with each running their normal rules as Ken Essary came home the winner of that event.

The Rumble in the Ozarks has both series getting ready for bragging rights as this will be point events for both.  Show-Me Racin Series founder Ken Essary, "The Midway isn't all about horsepower, it’s about chassis set-up and driving ability and this will be a tough feature to make as several drivers should be on hand that night."

Newly named Fastrak Midwest Director Eric Rudd and Show-Me Series founder Ken Essary have been able to work this event out for the best of both Series.

The Fastrak Late Models which feature GM Crate Motors will be able to run 100 Lbs less than normal as the Show-Me Series drivers which feature a spec motor will be running normal rules also.

Fastrak offers its drivers a large point fund for the weekly or regional racer at the end of the season will have this race listed as one event not to miss. Regional director Eric Rudd, who was on hand when the Show-Me Cars and Fastrak Cars meet for the first time is very excited about this event. Rudd who had Ed Dixon driving his car for that race saw just how close these 2 series drivers are and feels the fans will be the big winner overall.

Also scheduled that evening is regular point shows for the A Mods, Super Stocks, Factory Stocks, Bombers and 305 Winged Sprints.

Additional notes:
This will be a Show-Me Racin Series points event, however; everyone attending will receive the same number of points.  We will not use our regular race procedure for this event.  How many points and race procedure will be decided upon at a later date.

Feb 1st - Kevin Henson

Kevin Henson is one of only a few drivers who has NEVER missed a Show-Me Racin Series event since the series began in 2004.  When asked about plans for 07, Kevin responded, "To run the Show-Me Series, and try to keep up with Ken Essary, Leslie Essary, Jim Fulp, and Justin Wells - we've got some tough competition in the series.  And my ultimate goal is the same as it was last year, to win the championship."

Kevin Henson could pull the championship off - he's finished in the top 5 in the point standings all three years of the series' existence.   He finished 4th in 04 & 05, and moved up to 3rd in 06.

This winter Kevin has been busy getting his car prepared to display at area car shows for the Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series.  His car was at the Ozarks Area Racer's Reunion in January and also on display on February 2nd and 3rd at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.  He's had a brand new motor built over the winter, in addition to redoing the car.

Kevin's favorite tracks are Springfield Raceway and Monett Speedway - he states, "I usually finish good on those tracks."  Look for Kevin Henson's blue #15 to be one of the top runners for the 07 Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series that kicks off on April 7 at West Plains Motor Speedway.  Visit www.Show-MeRacinSeries.com for the complete schedule.

Kevin's sponsors include ARW Digital Balancing, Marionville Package Store, HBH Engineers, Marco's Pizza, Marty's Motor and Machine, Ruby's Nu-Image, and Kennalee Bolton-Pratt's Miniature Schnauzers.

His help includes his Dad, Johnnie and Mom, Teresa, Jeremy Riley, Victor Link, and Ken Essary.

More on the Racer's Reunion below:
Springfield, MO - January 03, 2007
By: Kevin Fletcher

The Ozarks Area Racers Reunion marks its 20Th year this season, as plans are underway to celebrate on January 6Th at the Shrine Mosque in Springfield, Mo. The Shrine Mosque is located at 601 St. Louis Street in the downtown area of the queen city town.

Helping celebrate year 20 will be the driver of the number 20 Home Depot car Tony Stewart, Stewart stated he was coming especially for the racers of the Midwest, but also wanted to be present to help induct a long time friend and to help thank one of the people that believed in Tony when he needed a start in racing years ago. The inductee list for the year shares hundreds if not thousands of feature wins between countless drivers.

Awarded this season will be Larry Howard, one of those responsible for getting Tony Stewart started in racing. But not only Stewart, Howard has been the driving force behind many race teams over the last 40 years having over 50 drivers to be exact. Another who put many drivers in victory circle is Bob Davis of Springfield, Mo. Davis was responsible for helping many drivers achieve legend status in the Ozarks including his brother Frankie and another of this years Inductees Delbert Hassler. Hassler started racing in the late 50's and blazed the tracks all across the Midwest, with one of his most famous cars being one of his last cars, a Super Sport Chevelle owned by Charlie Oberbeck. Another one of the Legends awards for 07' goes to the late Jack Belk of Joplin, Mo. Belk's name rang across many p.a. systems thru the 50's thru the 70's, he scored an amazing 35 championships and over 200 "A" Feature wins.

Buck Armstrong's name will be spoken highly as a pioneer inductee the same way they used to talk about his cars in the late 60's. Buck hand picked some of the best drivers for his cars including David Goldsberry, Tom "Bolivar" Brown, Dean Roper, Lloyd Sawyer, George Baxter and the colorful racer Verlin Simmons. Retired now Buck lives on his small farm with his faithful dog "Smokey". Bob Newkirk is another name more of the Old Timers might remember but, from the stories that have been told of him it's a shame he wasn't racing over the last few years. Newkirk cashed many promoters checks in the 50's in his famed F6 32 ford coupe. He was fierce on both Dirt and Asphalt competing at the Ozark Speedway also known as the Fairgrounds Speedway, Taney Bowl Speedway in Branson, Mo. as well as Greentop in Joplin and the Humansville and Ava tracks.

Bob Fielder was another one that had talents to keep a car at the front that many was jealous of. Originally a "Straightliner" Bob converted from Drags to the Excitement of Stock Car racing in the 60's, his who's who list of drivers included the one and only Wee Willie Crane, Terry Brumley, Jim Johnson, Harvey Hilton, Jeff Campbell and "Corvette" John Corless to name a few. Also teaming up with a long time school friend Johnie Friebe, Fielder and Friebe ran many years together and recieved many awards.

Bud Jones and Bud Mckee was quite a pair especially with a Jones prepaired engine under the hood. But Jones help was seeked by many in the pits after they saw the horsepower he could find in the engines. Soon Jerry Shaddy and Joe Naegler was wanting engines of their own for their striving careers. One team that Jones built motors for was a true test of his talent, Larry Phillips abused many a motor in the area thru the 70's and won an equal amount of races proving Jones could assemble horsepower.

Another legend that's carved his place in history is Ken Essary of Cape Fair, Mo. Nearing Social Security age, Essary refuses to slow down. fact is he's faster now than he ever was, on and off the track. Winning his first race 35 years ago, Essary has notched another 700 race wins. In 1973 he competed at the Fayetville, Ark. track and won his first championship then again in 1974 he notched another 18 of 20 races there. His best run was at the Monett Speedway winning the season points championships for a mere 14 seasons in a row. Along with being Inducted in the Ozarks Area Racers reunion Essay was Inducted last season into the Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in Union, Kentucky. Most recently a book was released about the "Flying Farmer" and some of his accomplishments.

Along with the Legends and Pioneers that will be honored at 7 p.m. that evening will be Thousands of Pictures on display from all the area racetracks. Pictures from the 30's thru present day racing. A wide array of cars will also be on display including a vintage Ford Coupe that is in uncut unrestored condition, just as raced 50 some years ago. Another oldie will be a Midget that has had countless hours of restoration, Plus many more including present day cars belonging to Dave Ware, Jesse Stovall, Restro cars of Mike Watson and Les Friebe, Ken Scott and many, many more. Advance tickets can be bought at all area O'Reilly Auto Parts as well as Ticketmaster, Ron's Racing Collectibles, Greene County Damaged Food and Freight Sales and the Shrine Mosque.

For more information contact Mark Perry at 417-886-3358 or Kevin Fletcher at 417-234-3273
or midwestracing@sbcglobal.net

Advance Tickets can be purchased for $15 for Adult $20 at the door. Kids tickets are $8
